Unidad #1 - La medida lineal
pulgada centimetro pie yarda
metro largo corto longitud
Unit 1 - Linear measurement
The essential questions which will be discussed over the next several weeks include:
-How do we measure?
-When should you estimate and when do you need an exact measurement?
-What properties or attributes can be measured?
-How can accurate measurements help us solve problems and make sense of our world?
Vocabulary terms include: measure to estimate ruler
inch centimeter foot
meter unit customary system
metric system
We will make connections throughout the unit to help students transfer what they are learning from Spanish to English.
Graphing-the students learned how to collect and convert information to different types of graphs.
Different graphs included: line plots, bar graphs, pictographs, coordinates
XtraMath-This program will help the students increase their fluency and automaticity to help them focus on other areas of math. All students received a letter explaining how to set up an account to practice at home.
Unit 2 - addition and subtraction
Vocabulary includes: unit tens add
digit subtract number line
decompose blocks strategy
Students will learn various strategies to practice adding and subtracting two-digits numbers.
Unit 3 - Money
In this unit we will study what the coins are called (penny, nickel, dime, quarter), how much they are worth, how to count groups of coins and bills ($1-$20). We will also continue to work with word problems and choosing strategies that we used in unit 2).
Unit 4 - Place value
Students will be responsible for recognizing numbers to 1,000, saying and writing them. They should also know the places (ones, tens, hundreds) and how much a digit is worth in a number. Students will know how to write a number in expanded notation.
Unit 5 - Geometry and fractions
We are learning about polygons, flat and solid shapes, and some symmetry. Also, we will have a base of factions including equal parts, a whole, and unit fractions.
